Education: University Trinity St. David’s – Dewi Building

What we did:

The project included the redevelopment of the ground floor of the Dewi building. The purpose of the development was to create a vibrant and welcoming reception area for all campus visitors and users. The aim was to improve student and visitor experience when arriving at the main reception of the University’s Carmarthen campus at the Dewi Building. The proposal included the upgrade of the existing reception area to create a fit for purpose modern and welcoming facility with contemporary decoration, and an iconic exhibition area celebrating the ‘history of the Carmarthen campus’ along with achieving a sustainable design.

Works Completed:

  • Asbestos Removal
  • Reconfiguration and Refurbishment
  • Mechanical and Electrical upgrade
  • Internal fit outs to provide meeting rooms
  • Internal doors, suspended ceilings, ventilation, decoration
  • Roofing Works

Key things we had to consider:

The university was operational during the contract period with access being required by staff to the first three floors of the building whilst were ongoing on the ground floor. Access to the lift was required to these floors which was located within the works area on the ground floor. Excellent communication processes were agreed and adopted to ensure that the construction works did not have an adverse impact on the day to day operations of the university team. The arrangements were subject to regular review to ensure that the measures adopted were working effectively with changes being implemented as required. This was particularly important during the asbestos removal works and during periods of noisy works.

Building Standards we worked to:

  • LABC (Local Authority Building Control)
